21-year-old male receives world’s first successful penis transplant

The operation took nine hours

Here’s some odd, but very good news from South Africa.

Doctors from the University of Stellenbosch near Cape Town in South Africa have announced the world’s first successful penis transplant.

The operation occurred back in December on a 21-year-old male who has not been named and took a total of nine hours to complete.

The patient had his penis amputated around three years ago ‘following complications from a circumcision performed in his late teens,’ reports the Huffington Post.

According to the University of Stellenbosch, “finding a donor was one of the major challenges.”

Doctors now hope for the patient to have full use of his transplanted penis within two years.

On behalf of men everywhere, we hope he has a speedy recovery.
