Likely story.

Police in Germany are currently in the middle of an investigation into a quite bizarre occurrence at a homeopathy conference just south of Hamburg last week, when 29 alternative healers were found severely under the influence of mind-altering drugs.

According to The Guardian, attendees at the conference were found “hallucinating, staggering around, groaning and rolling on the grass” by emergency services who were called to the scene.

Investigators believe that psychedelic drugs were to blame for the bizarre behaviour of the people at the conference but are still trying to determine whether they were taken intentionally or not.

“We’re now questioning the delegates and awaiting the results of blood and urine tests,” Police spokesperson Lars Nicklesen is quoted as saying in The Guardian.

“We still don’t know if they took the drugs on purpose. The question is whether they want to talk about it; they have the right to remain silent,” he added.

The drug 2C-E, known in Germany as Aquarust, is suspected as being responsible for the behaviour of those at the conference. It is known to heighten perception of colours and sounds and can cause hallucinations, psychosis and severe cramps if consumed in higher doses.

160 people, including police, fire crews and ambulance staff, were involved in treating the 29 people in an operation that took four hours and also involved a helicopter.

Those affected were transferred to seven different hospitals, with media in Hamburg reporting that in one hospital, patients had to be strapped down to their beds such was the effect of their hallucinations.

A spokesperson for the Asklepios clinic said: “They were completely off their heads.”

None of the 29 people affected are likely to suffer any lasting damage as a result of the episode but must wait to find out if they will face any legal ramifications as a result of the ongoing investigation.
