You can literally out-run death, as one hour of jogging adds seven extra hours of life

Rory Cashin

Let us start off with a bit of an obvious disclaimer: running won’t make you immortal.

However, according to a recent study at Iowa State University, one hour of running can up seven hours to your lifespan.

The results were published in Journal of the American College of Cardiology, and the follow-up study in the results came up with some very specific details.

We all already knew that a little daily exercise goes a long way, but apparently as little as five to ten minutes running per day is enough to drop the danger of ‘premature death’ by as much as 40%.

So how did they come up with the seven hours number?

They worked from an “active life” span of 40 years, and if you ran for 2 hours per week, that would account to less than six months of time used running.

However, this time spent running would add 3.2 years to your lifespan, so subtracting the time spent running, you’d be left with a net gain of 2.8 years.

Which breaks down to seven additional hours for every hour spent running.

Now, what to do with those extra hours?
