Colin Farrell quit smoking by using a very strange method

That's one way to nip the habit in the bud

That’s one way to nip the habit in the bud.

When Colin Farrell’s Hollywood career went stratospheric, there was always a few things that you would see in any photograph of the Castleknock actor.

A beautiful woman on his arm, a smile on his face and a pint/cigarette in his hands were all permanent fixtures in Farrell’s life but he’s managed to kick some of his biggest vices, drugs, drinks and smokes.

The actor ditched smoking after writing a “break-up letter” to “The Spirit of Tobacco”. Yep, that’s right, a break-up letter.

The ‘True Detective’ star went down the symbolic route in which he penned a note explaining his decision to give up, before burning it along with his cigarettes.

Farrell explained all in the new issue of Men’s Health magazine:

“I got a frying pan and tossed the letter with a load of tobacco, put some paraffin over it, and lit a match that sent a big, wallowing cloud up into the sky. Then I didn’t have a cigarette for another two years.”

He must be delighted.
