Imagine if you could keep your heart healthy and avoid heart disease or heart attacks simply by inhaling a nasal spray. Well the good news is that this could become a reality pretty soon.
The Irish Daily Mirror reports that a new nasal spray could remove excess fat in arteries and significantly lower the risk of suffering from a heart attack. Amazing. The best part? This revolutionary new product could be on the market and available to the public within five years.
So what is it? Well researchers discovered a treatment that was much more effective at removing fat from arteries than traditional methods. This ‘vaccine’ as they’re calling it can be administered as an injector or as a nasal spray.
At present the product itself, and the compounds of it, are still hush-hush as the manufacturers are waiting for a regulatory clearance.
However, we can reveal that a trial of 144 heart disease sufferers is currently underway in the US and Canada, and according to the director of the Heart Foundation, the vaccine is “very promising.” Good enough for us.
Reports say that the vaccine works by stimulating your immune system to produce antibodies. The antibodies are then naturally drawn to areas where there is a build-up of fatty deposits in arteries.
A study, which was conducted using the vaccine in the Lund University, Sweden, found that it could reduce the fatty deposits by 60-70 per cent.
Why is fat so dangerous though? Well it places an immense strain on the heart by narrowing the arteries that help transport blood from the heart to the rest of the body. If fat has built up in these arteries, the heart has to pump harder to get the same amount of blood out.
“The antibody therapy is likely to be expensive so you could probably only afford to give it to people at high risk rather than everyone,” said Professor Jan Nilsson of Lund University.
Even still, it offers people who are at risk of heart attacks or people who are currently suffering from heart disease some hope that their condition could be cured in the near future.
