Do you love a big greasy fry-up on the weekends? Do you feel a bit guilty after eating it? Well here’s some good news. New research has found that the occasional greasy fry-up is not as bad for us as we’ve been told.
The Irish Daily Star reports that frying food in olive or sunflower oil does not increase the risk of heart disease, according to a new study.
Top scientists in Spain analysed data about diets using 41,000 adults who did not have heart disease. During an 11 year follow up with the participants, only 600 people suffered any kind of “heart disease events.”
Analysis showed that those who regularly ate fried food showed no increased risk of heart disease or dying. Score! Bust out the chips…
“Taken together, the myth that frying food is generally bad for the heart is not supported by available evidence,” said an expert.
“However, this does not mean that frequent meals of fish and chips will have no health consequences,” he added.
On second thoughts, cancel the chips.
While this research won’t give you free reign to go and start deep fat frying everything you come into contact with, at least you know that you don’t have to feel guilty the next time you tuck into a fry-up.
