Get fit, look fit: The heat is on, so dress better for the weather

Summer's just around the corner

Conor Heneghan

Summer’s just around the corner.

While summer is guaranteed annually in most parts of the world, it’s something of an occasional entity in Ireland in that only feels the need to stop and visit us once every few years.

The recent spell of good weather and the last two summers are proof that we do sometimes get extended runs of sunshine in this country and if the big yellow thing in the sky doesn’t give you the kick in the arse to get outside and get active, we don’t know what will.

Working up a sweat in warm weather doesn’t do wonders for your image so you might as well try and suit up well while you’re at it and these t-shirts will help in that regard.

That farmer’s tan won’t create itself, after all.

O’Neills Capard Training T-Shirt (€20)

GAA enthusiasts will have noticed just how cool the training gear from O’Neills is these days and has been for the last few years, and it’s great to see an Irish company spreading its wings into rugby and, famously, with the Congo national team at the African Cup of Nations.

There are no frills with this effort, but it’s light and breathable and just what you need when the thermometer starts to hit double figures.

adidas Response Tee (€26)

When you’re working your ass off in hot weather, the basic requirement you need from what you’re wearing is to keep you as cool as possible.

With climalite technology, this t-shirt will do just that and it’s available in loads of different colours too.

Under Armour Tech™ Short Sleeve T-Shirt (€35)

heatwear3

Under Armour were already popular before last weekend, but their reputation will have received a massive boost after Jordan Spieth won the US Masters with more brand logos on view than an episode of Friday Night Lights.

We love the camouflage-type design above, but you can get this t-shirt in a variety of colours and the quick-drying fabric will help keep you cool under the sun’s glare.

Puma Running Fitted T-Shirt (€40)

heatwear4

If it’s good enough for Usain Bolt, it’s good enough for us and this fitted t-shirt is simple, looks very neat and uses coolCELL technology to provide ventilation while you work out.

Nike Bonded Fade Tank Top (€41)

Temperatures in Ireland didn’t even reach the 20s last week and there was still a proliferation of farmer’s tans that would make Pat Spillane blush.

You can ensure that it won’t happen to you this summer by working out in a tank top, if you’re brave enough, of course.

Feel free to use that wanting to avoid the farmer’s tan line excuse if your only reason for going sleeveless is to get the guns out and give Dan and Ger their day in the sun.
