Have you heard about Facebook’s new feature? Calm, down, don’t panic. It’s not another timeline (shudder). This feature is actually useful. No really. In fact, it could save lives according to the company…
Digital Times reports that starting today, Facebook users can now officially add if they are an organ donor to their timelines. Yes, you can let your entire social network know that your organs are free for the taking once you no longer cease to live. Awesome.
Likewise you’ll also be able to see if your friends are organ donors, so you can carefully start selecting whose eyes, heart and liver you’d prefer if your own innards should suddenly fail you.
See? It’s a barrel of laughs.
Anyway, in a post that went up on Facebook’s official newsfeed, the social networking site states: “We believe that by simply telling people that you’re an organ donor, the power of sharing and connection can play an important role.”
According to reports, Mark Zuckerberg will appear on ABC’s Good Morning America to tell the world about the new tool and the reason behind why Facebook chose to allow users the option of letting the world know of their organ donor status.
Organ donation saves thousands of lives every single year, so you have to admire Facebook for taking the step and encouraging awareness of it within the social networking generation.
If you’re not already an organ donor but want to get in on the action, the new feature will also tell you how you can go about putting your name on the official donor registry.
Now, how much do you think you could get for that liver of yours?
