Here’s what thirty years of smoking indoors looks like on your furniture

Paul Moore

Smoking

Christ almighty.

The medical benefits of giving up smoking are well known to everybody but what about the damage that smoking can have on household furniture?

Jeff McCarthy is an Irish painter that’s living in Tampere, Finland and he sent us in this footage of an apartment that he’s currently renovating.

As the man from Clara, Co. Offaly said: “I’m renovating an apartment which belonged to an elderly lady, she liked her cigarettes and here are the results of what thirty years of smoking indoors looks like.”

Jeff has been working as a painter for the last 14 years and he said that this is the worst case of smoke-induced damage that he has seen.

As you can see in the footage below, Jeff is only using a cleaning fluid that he called Indoor Painters wash.

The difference between the surfaces – before and after the solution is applied – is absolutely startling.

Unfortunately for Jeff,  he tells us that he has been informed by his site supervisor that there are two more apartments in the next building that are even worse than this one.

Thankfully, that job won’t start for another month.

A timely reminder to smoke outside.
