How often do you shower? You’re probably doing it too much

Alan Loughnane

We’ve been saying it for years, if you’re showering everyday, then you’re probably showering too much…

A lot of people cannot begin their day without a long hot shower to clear both their mind and body.

However, according to TIME, a daily shower might be too much for your body as by washing your skin with water and soap everyday can dry out the skin, causing cracks that lead to infections and stripping your skin of its natural oils which keep it healthy.

While societal norms have dictated that the majority of people will bathe regularly, after all, if you smell like a two heavily used football sock, people aren’t going to want to be near you.

However, for strictly hygienic reasons, a shower once or twice a week is enough for your body but this depends on what kind of lifestyle you live.

If you go jogging daily and hit the gym regularly then once or twice a week just isn’t going to cut it for you but assistant professor of dermatology at George Washington University, Dr. C. Brandon Mitchell said “I tell patients who shower daily not to lather their whole bodies.”

“Hit your pits, butt and groin, which are the areas that produce strong-smelling secretions. The rest of your body doesn’t need much soaping.”
