As part of the Blue September campaign, proudly supported by VHI Healthcare, we caught up with former Meath footballer Liam Hayes to hear him speak candidly about his own experiences of dealing with cancer.

Winner of two All-Irelands with one of the toughest teams ever to play Gaelic Football, Hayes is one of Meath’s best-known footballers while he also carved out a reputation as an astute and straight-talking pundit when he hung up his boots.

Hayes was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma in 2010 having discovered a tumour on his neck and he spoke candidly to JOE recently about his experiences of dealing with the condition, how to stay positive and the importance of getting checked out.
