Caoimhe Nagle has bravely shared pictures of herself without her wig on Facebook after beating cancer.

Caoimhe sister Emma shared this image with us this morning and paid tribute to the 16-year-old who was diagnosed with dysgermino, a type of stem cell cancer, having initially been told that she was pregnant.

“In March Caoimhe was ill for a few days, feeling run down. On the 10th of March my parents brought her to MIDOC because she was complaining about the light giving her headaches,” Emma told us.

“She was sent to Mullingar where, after another test, they found out that Caoimhe wasn’t pregnant but in fact had a tumour the size of a rugby ball on her left ovary.

“She had major surgery a few days later in St. James Hospital where her left ovary, the tumour, her appendix and some lymph nodes were removed. Her recovery went brilliantly and the 30cm cut from the surgery healed well.

“About two weeks after the surgery we received the call to say that Caoimhe had cancer. The type of cancer she had was called Dysgermino, a type of stem cell cancer. She would have to undergo chemotherapy.”

Emma tells us how Caoimhe remained so positive throughout such a traumatic few months.

“Caoimhe had to have three cycles of this and she was so brave throughout it all. She had so many complications during the chemotherapy which saw her staying in hospital for three weeks for every cycle.

“She is currently in hospital now waiting to get home after her LAST cycle. Even through her hair loss she was so brave and laughed it off at home when her hair was falling out in huge clumps.”
