Never has the phrase ‘beauty is in the eye of the beholder’ seemed more apt.
Different individuals will always come up with different answers when issues of image and beauty are discussed, but it was very interesting to see the results of an experiment carried out by Superdrug on those very topics recently.
As part of a project called ‘Perceptions of Perfection,’ the online pharmacy hired designers from 18 different countries to photoshop the image of a woman based on the beauty standards of those specific countries.
The designers, 14 of whom were women, altered the image below to reflect what they believed to reflect a woman’s ideal body, changing everything from the waistline and size of breasts, hips, legs etc.
When the results came out, the differences between the images were very interesting (scroll down to see).
A Superdrug press release on the project read: “Widely held perceptions of beauty and perfection can have a deep and lasting cultural impact on both women and men.
“The goal of this project is to better understand potentially unrealistic standards of beauty and to see how such pressures vary around the world.”
