Ideal for after Christmas.

A study carried out in Britain suggests nearly a million Britons could lose more than two stone by taking a new weight loss pill.

According to The Telegraph, Studies in the UK have said that more than one in four people in Britain are obese but this pill could be the solution to their weight problem.

The pill, which contains a balloon, was unveiled at the world’s largest obesity conference which takes place between the 17-20 May and demonstrated this new, effective alternative to surgery.

The pill is attached to a thin tube and when it is swallowed, the balloon swells up in the stomach when it is filled with water which in turn restricts the number of calories a person can consume.

The pill, which has been dubbed ‘gastric band in a tablet’, has proved effective and a study of 42 adults in the UK found they lost two stone and six pounds on average after four months.

It costs around £3,ooo privately, which is around half the price of stomach stapling, and researcher from the University of Rome have said the balloon technique could save “significant costs” to the health service in the long run.

The Congress, which took place in Porto, also discovered that the pill could improve blood pressure, cholesterol levels and blood sugar control.

The effortless method could find huge popularity amongst failed dieters who may want to avoid the stress of surgery.

Experts said counselling was necessary to ensure that patients kept the weight off, after the empty balloon passes out through the body.

A replica pill could be available in the rest of Europe if proved successful in the UK.
