On September 21 over 60 motorcyclists from all over Ireland will depart Dublin for Chicago where they will begin their 2,444 mile journey across America, with the aim of riding up Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles 12 days later. Irish comedians PJ Gallagher and JOE.ie’s own Eric Lalor will leather up and take on the mother of all mother roads to help this group raise over €250,000 for sick kids in Ireland.

This bi-annual trip has been running since 2002. It sees Temple Street’s motorcyclists travel through nine states and four different time zones; from Illinois through Missouri, Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada and finally California. As they ride this wonderful road, always on their minds are the brave little patients in Temple Street that urgently need the best possible care that can be given to them.

At the launch of this spectacular trip, Angela McNulty, Special Events Manager said: “It’s amazing to finally have PJ and Eric join the Irish 66 Team. Temple Street Children’s University Hospital’s Route 66 Challenge is truly a unique experience. Thank you so much to each and every one of our bikers who have made such a difference to our little biker buddies in the hospital.”

Irish comedian, PJ Gallagher was also at the launch and had this to say: “It gives me a sense of pride to be involved with the Route 66 Motorcycle Challenge for Temple Street. I see first hand the wonderful work they do at the hospital. I’m in and out on a regular basis. I’m delighted to be involved and making a difference in some small way.”

Also speaking at the launch was another Irish comedian, JOE’s Eric Lalor: “I am genuinely thrilled to be part of the Route 66 Motorcycle Challenge for Temple Street. It’s a charity very close to my heart and one I have worked with for quite a few years now. I’ve done lots of gigs for them and I know the amazing work that is done in there so it’s always a genuine pleasure to help out when I can. The Route 66 Challenge is something I have dreamt about and I still cannot believe I am going. I cannot wait to get started.” #Route664TempleStreet

The lads will compile a diary blog for JOE.ie when they take on the iconic journey across America on Route 66, and we will be bringing it to you right here.
