The key at this stage is to stay focused.

Now that you’re in the second week of your life post smoking, you have to keep your eyes on the prize. Just like we told you during week one, the hardest part is already over.

You’ve made the choice to quit smoking, and you’re already sticking with it. It’s only natural that you’re going to come across challenges on the way, and here is how our life coach Raul Aparici said you should expect to be feeling at this crucial stage of the process.

One thing is certain; you’ve got to make sure your head is in the game.

Quit To Fit week two

Regardless of how you’re feeling at this point, your best bet is to keep reminding yourself of why you want to quit. Some feel the positive effects a lot sooner than others, but there’s no reason to believe you won’t be just as successful in the end.

“A word of caution about failure: it is integral to the process of success,” Raul said.

Rather than wasting energy worrying about how other people are doing, stay focused on the end goal. Not everyone is going to get it right straight away.

“Some lucky people will pick up a bowling ball, throw it down the lane and get a strike first time. But for most of us, the experience will be rather different. We may miss completely and throw our ball down the gutter, to the amused laughter of our friends; or we may knock a couple of pins, maybe three.”

“The truth is, as much as we would all like to be proficient at bowling, it’s going to take a degree of trial and error until we become a bit better at the game,” he said.

Stick with it

“Quitting follows the same pattern. We may have a romantic notion of the quitter as someone who one day decides to quit and never smokes again. And we of course measure ourselves against this mythical creature and fall short every time.”

Many people have to try more than once before they are successful in quitting smoking. Even if you’ve tried several times before without any luck, it’s all a natural part of the process.

“But if you have ever tried to quit and failed, rest assured that you are in the majority. Research shows that most people successfully quit after eight to 12 attempts, so relapses are a natural (and expected) part of the process,” he said.
