Quit to Fit: Meet the teams

JOE

In partnership with NiQuitin.

Ready, steady, quit.

So our Quit to Fit challenge is just about to get underway. Over the course of the next 10 weeks, we’ll be setting a different activity each week with the intention of improving your health and keeping your mind off of cigarettes.

We asked for groups of people to come forward and be the face of the campaign. Lots of you put yourself out there for selection. We’ve chosen five groups of courageous souls that will take up this task.

Before they start on the challenge, we asked each of the teams to participate in VO2 testing. If you don’t know what that is, it measures your cardiovascular fitness and provides a breakdown of your fitness profile.

At the end of the 10 weeks, we’ll be asking the teams to take the same test to see how far they’ve come in that time. From there we’ll be picking out overall winners from the groups and the winning team will win a fitness holiday up to the value of €5,000. So there’s plenty on the line.

Giving up smoking is no easy task so these teams will need each other for support along the way.

Keep an eye on our social media channels for updates on how the five teams are getting on. If you’re going to take up the challenge yourselves then make sure to post on your own social media using the hashtag #QuittoFit in order to let us know your own progress.

Sarah Tierney and Ben Dyer

This couple from Dublin have tried to quit before, using all sorts of methods including going cold turkey. Having been smoking for 10 years, they’re starting to worry about the long-term effects on their health.

Yvonne Dolan and Gordon Fahy

This husband and wife pair from Galway are looking to test themselves mentally and physically as they attempt to quit for good.

Collette Brennan, Joseph Brennan & Niamh Brennan

The Brennans are siblings from Dublin. They’re looking to improve their general well-being with the challenge.

Sean Mangan and Katie Hynes

Sean and Katie are best friends from Laois. They tend to smoke most weekends when they’re out together. They want to kick the habit for good and reverse the damage done so far.

Maeve Galvin and friends

We’ve managed to rope in one of our own team to take on the challenge. Maeve from JOE has bravely decided to put herself up for the 10 weeks of challenges. She’s not in it for the prizes, which is a good thing because she’s not eligible to win the prize. That’d be like Ted and Dougal awarding themselves the car in the raffle.

She’ll be accompanied by a couple of friends who will be there to give her moral support along the way, as will everyone else in the office. Go Maeve!
