This report claims that Tinder may be to blame for a rise in STDs

This doesn't bode well for users of the hookup app

Where’s your old pal Johnny when you need him?

Hooking up with someone these days has become as easy as swiping right on Tinder, but the ease of meeting a nice girl or guy via an online app comes with its own problems.

According to Rhode Island’s Department of Health, between 2013 and 2014, cases of syphilis grew by 79% in the state, while HIV infections were up 33% and gonorrhoea cases increased by 30 per cent.

Social media and ‘hookup’ apps, like Tinder, are being blamed for the rise in STDs as infections are growing at a faster rate among young adults compared to the rest of the population.

CNN reports that the state’s health department blamed “high-risk behaviours that have become more common in recent years,” including “using social media to arrange casual and often anonymous sexual encounters.”

So if you do frequent the app to find sexual partners, just remember to stay safe in the bedroom.
