Tom Hanks Covid

Get well soon, Tom.

Actor Tom Hanks has confirmed that he and his wife Rita Wilson are among a group of people recently diagnosed with COVID-19.

In a statement issued through his official Twitter page, Hanks confirmed that he and his wife were tested for the illness after developing colds, chills and fevers while in Australia.

Hanks struck a relatively upbeat tone in the statement, saying: “We Hanks’ will be tested, observed and isolated for as long as public health and safety requires. Not much more to it than an a one-day-at-a-time approach, no?”

The 63-year-old actor is currently in Australia to work on an Elvis Presley biopic directed by Baz Luhrmann.

On Thursday night, US President Donald Trump announced that he would be banning flights to the US from all Schengen Zone countries – and restricting visits from anyone who had been in a Schengen Zone country in the last 14 days before their trip to the US.

Also on Thursday, the World Health Organisation declared that the coronavirus is a pandemic.
