The breach occurred last month, but it only became apparent earlier this week.

Approximately 150 million users of a popular fitness app associated with the major sports brand Under Armour were affected by a data breach that occurred last month.

MyFitnessPal, which describes itself as “the leading resource in nutrition tracking” and is powered by Under Armour, revealed in a statement that user information, including usernames, email addresses, and hashed passwords, was acquired by an unauthorised party during the month of February.

In the statement, Chief Digital Officer with MyFitnessPal, Paul Fipps, said that the company is working with leading data security firms to assist in their investigation and that it is coordinating with law enforcement authorities.

MyFitnessPal users have been urged to change their passwords immediately, to avoid clicking links or downloading attachments from suspicious emails and to be cautious of any unsolicited communications that ask for personal data.

The statement in full can be read here, while users can access more information on the app’s security page here.
