A “once-off” VHI online advantage offer – which policyholders originally had until the end of August to avail of – has been extended for another a month

The advantage offer, which would see cash to the value of “at least” €100 land in customers’ accounts, is available to all VHI policyholders, even those who are VHI members through their work health insurance scheme.

Up to €150 is expected for those with family plans and higher amounts still could be sought by those with young adults on their policy.

The VHI has rolled out the initiative to entice members to pay their premium by direct debit and move to paperless communication, which will help to reduce their overheads significantly.

“It’s great that VHI are extending the offer as I think that, until this week, many policyholders were not aware of it – or were somewhat oblivious to the 31 August deadline,” Dermot Goode, Ireland’s leading health insurance consultant with Totalhealthcover.ie said of the extension.

“We have experienced a spike in the number of calls from policyholders in recent days asking if it applies to them and if they are too late, and something that we have noticed is that many people who are VHI members through their work health insurance scheme assume that because their employer pays their premium, this offer doesn’t apply to them – it does!

“They, like everybody else, are entitled to sign up online and receive the €50 bonus.

“This money will go straight into the employee/ policyholder’s bank account. It doesn’t matter whether the employer is paying the premiums by Direct debit or cheque, once they sign up online they qualify.”

For those who opt to pay their premium by direct debit, they will be paid a once-off cash payment of €50, direct to their bank accounts, on 1 September.

In addition to this, if they opt to go ‘paperless’ for all their documentation, VHI will pay a further €50 for each adult insured on the policy in addition to the direct debit reward – also on 1 September.

However, policyholders should remember that this is a once-off offer for going paperless and paying by direct debit.

To avail of this, members must log on to My VHI and register for the reward by clicking on ‘Online Advantage’.
