VIDEO: A short, moving film about suicide patrols in Drogheda and Waterford

Tony Cuddihy

“What motivates us is bringing a loved one back home to their family alive and well.”

Response is a short documentary focused on the volunteers of the Drogheda River Rescue & Recovery, and Waterford Marine Search & Rescue.

Both of these are organisations that strive to prevent people from entering the water and prevent suicide.

The work they do, often leaving their families at 10pm on weekends to patrol the nearby rivers, is extraordinary.

They receive no government funding; their work is completely voluntary.

“The best thing we do is that we give people a second chance.”

Winner of the ‘Best Second Year Group Project 2016’ from the Institute of Technology Blanchardstown; Response is a student film made by Robert Kiberd, James Gribbin, Shane Conroy and Stephen Kennedy, four students of Creative Digital Media at ITB, Dublin.
