Only days after his death from lung cancer, the HSE have released two new advertisements featuring the late Gerry Collins to mark No Smoking Day.

The former Dublin footballer had been the face of a HSE anti-smoking campaign in 2011 and again this year when he spoke openly about the effect that smoking had had on his health in a series of hard-hitting television and radio advertisements.

Collins sadly lost his battle with cancer and passed away aged 57 on Sunday morning and only days after his death, the HSE have released two advertisements filmed by Collins in the weeks leading up to his death to mark No Smoking Day.

In the first advert (see top of the page), Collins speaks about the individual members of his family and how much he’s going to miss them, while in the second (see below) he speaks about the things he’s grateful for and doesn’t shy away from the devastating and terminal effect that smoking had on his health.

Collins’ tale is a very sad one, but hopefully the bravery he showed when speaking up about the negative effects that smoking can have on your health will have an impact in helping save lives in this country and beyond.
