Carlton Cole has been fined £20,000 for his twitter joke about Ghanaians football supporters.
The England international, who accepted a charge of improper conduct, has also been warned about his future conduct.
On the eve of England’s friendly against Ghana, Cole tweeted: “Immigration has surrounded the Wembley premises! I knew it was a trap! Hahahaha.
“The only way to get out safely is to wear an England jersey and paint your face w/ the St. George's flag!”
Cole deleted the tweet after it caused offence, and he has since apologised.
“I will be asking to donate the money to a Ghanaian charity of my choice,” the 27-year-old tweeted, “preferably to a children's charity.”
He continued: “Hopefully the money will be going to a good cause. Sorry if i have offended anyone but there was no malice & harm meant.
“I never knew a light hearted joke would cause so much offence.”
