The Blues are to bid for the highly-rated Brazilian international Paulo Henrique Ganso, according to reports in the British and Brazilian media.
The 21-year-old attacking midfielder has scored 24 goals in 94 appearances for Santos, and his full-debut for his country in 2010.
Compared to both Zidane and Kaka, he has been linked with numerous clubs over the last few years including Manchester United, Barcelona and Arsenal.
According to Brazilian publication O Globo, however, Intenazionale and Chelsea are currently his only realistic suitors.
"I have spoken to the boy and he wants to prove himself abroad," confirmed Santos chairman Luiz Alvaro de Oliveira.
"Before now, the chances that Ganso would leave Santos were zero, but it could be 50 per cent by the end of the season.
"Santos wants the best price for him and we will only accept a deal that is best for everyone - and that is likely to be with European football."
