If the always reliable internet rumour mill is to be believed, Kieran McGeeney could have a shiny new Ulster-born forward to select for Kildare next season.
Last week a fake twitter account set up under Offaly’s Niall McNamee’s name claimed that he wasn’t about to throw his lot in with the Lilywhites but it seems the rumours surrounding Kildare GAA will not go away.
It was obvious to all observers last year that Kildare were not too far away from being good enough to win the All-Ireland. It took an epic fight back by Donegal to eliminate them but their real problem was the lack of a top-class forward against the very best defences. They have one, Johnny Doyle, but he was deployed in midfield, so to go to the next level, they desperately need another.
Thanks to Des Cahill’s tweet this morning it seems that if a player does join, it will be from Ulster, no real surprise considering McGeeney’s roots but the identity of the player remains a mystery.

Stevie McDonnell is an old friend of Geezer who is based In Dublin, making him a candidate but it is hard to imagine him ever leaving Armagh’s colours.
Others suggest a “Down player” is in the frame but with Martin Clarke headed Down Under, they can ill afford to lose another.
Most speculation seems to fall on Cavan star Seanie Johnston. The supremely talented forward has been the Breffni standout for years but he has seemed frustrated with life on the Cavan side, saying this summer: "A lot of people talk about it's great to play county football, but what's the point in putting in the hard graft and labour for whatever it will be, 10/12 years, if you don't get anything out of it? Obviously, it's huge to be able to represent your county but you still want to get something out of it.”
Johnston is also a stalwart of his club Cavan Gaels but they are now out of the Ulster club championship so he may be free to make a move, if he wishes.
Any ideas out there and do Kildare need to do this to progress?
