The next time you start feeling stressed out, drop that stress ball and head for the nearest amusement park. Why? Well riding a rollercoaster could help you relax and offer you other health benefits too. Seriously.
The Irish Sun reports that a new study has revealed that the rush of riding rollercoasters has the ability to reduce stress and enhance memory.
It’s also a hell of a lot more fun than getting in trouble for screaming at your boss because you’re under an insane amount of pressure at work.
The research, which was carried out by Thorpe Park in England, suggested that spending even an afternoon going on rollercoasters could have “astonishing” health benefits.
Well, obviously they would say that given that they make their living off people going on rollercoasters, but apparently there is actually some truth in this.
“The euphoric buzz generated by the flood of feel-good chemicals into the rider’s brain and body can often fade fairly rapidly,” said Dr David Lewis, a leading neuropsychologist who headed up the Thorpe Park study.
“But more subtle effects may exert their influence for far longer,” he added.
If you’re suffering from short-term stress, going on a rollercoaster could reduce your levels of anxiety, make you feel happier and increase your self-confidence. It can also be beneficial for your relationship.
“A couple who ride together may find that it strengthens mutual attraction,” said Dr Lewis.
So the next time you feel like you could do with a bit of a boost, grab your missus and find a rollercoaster. It’ll calm you down and make her fancy you more.
It’s a win-win situation if you ask us…
