Remember how cold it was a winter or two ago? Brass-monkey weather if you ask us. Okay, it’s coming into summer but that’s no reason you shouldn’t get a headstart on winter and insulate your home now.

We got away with a mild winter this time around but for the two years previous to that you could barely put your nose outside the door before an icicle sprouted from your nostril. Sadly for some of us, the same was true even if we stayed inside! If that was your experience it doesn’t have to stay that way. Up to 35 per cent of your home’s heat could escape through the roof, often due to old, torn or non-existent attic insulation.

So what’s the best course of action to take before we have to face another harsh, cold, shivering winter? Well, you should get onto the good folk over at Electric Ireland to see what they can do for you. Electric Ireland is the expert on energy efficiency, so they know a thing or two about helping you to save you a small fortune on your heating and electricity bills.

If you beat the queues – and more importantly the freezing winter – and decide to get your cold attic insulated by Electric Ireland now, you can avail of a cosy 12 per cent discount on attic insulation which covers pipes, walkways and tanks as appropriate. How handy is that? However, you’d want to get your skates on as the deal is only valid until April 14.

And if you’re going to insulate the attic then why not go the extra step and insulate the walls too? On top of the 35 per cent heat loss suffered from a poorly insulated attic your house can experience a further 30 per cent heat loss from poorly insulated walls.

So basically, if you have inefficient insulation you’re liable to lose about two-thirds of the heat in your home. Think of how that might affect your bottom line? Just like Electric Ireland’s tempting deal on the attic insulation, anyone who books in their cavity wall insulatation before April 14 will make a toasty saving of 10 per cent.

If you’re interested in making your home a warmer place then get onto Electric Ireland’s Home Services Team to find out what they can do for you. Find out more on the Electric Ireland website here.
