As had been expected, Declan Ryan has been named as the new manager of the Tipperary senior hurling team.

Ryan, whose appointment was ratified at a meeting of the Tipperary County Board on Tuesday night, will be in charge of the Premier County for the next two years.

Tommy Dunne will act as coach, while Michael Gleeson will serve as a selector in a reprisal of the roles they filled under Ryan’s management of the Tipperary minor hurling team in 2007.

Ryan won three All-Ireland titles as a player with Tipperary in 1989, 1991 and 2001, while Dunne was captain of the 2001 side. Dunne also managed the Tipperary under-21 team to an All-Ireland title, as well as taking charge of his home club, Toomevara.

Gleeson, meanwhile, was in charge of the Thurles Sarsfields teams that won county titles in 2009 and again this year, while he has also taken charge of the club’s minor football and hurling teams, who both won county titles this year.

Ryan will succeed outgoing manager, Liam Sheedy, who stepped down following Tipperary’s All-Ireland success this year after three years in charge.
