11 of the best places to go in Dublin if you want to enjoy an alcohol-free date

Brought to you by TGI Fridays.

You don’t need to drink to have a good time.

Are you sick of constantly going to the same pub when you’re going out on a date? Maybe you want to experiment with some sober dating or you’re just sick of the same old dates and the same old places.

Well, we’ve drawn up this handy guide to where to go and what to do in Dublin if you fancy an alcohol-free date. Dates will never be the same again!

1. Do the Howth cliff walk

One of the nicest walks in Dublin is the Howth cliff walk and you can do it in a couple of hours. You can enjoy the sea air, some alone time by the seaside and there’s even a secret beach down by the Lighthouse. A secret beach, no less! Why not bring a picnic and go all out on the romance?

2. Do the Skyline Tour at Croke Park

There’s more to Croke Park than just GAA matches and concerts. The Skyline Tour gives you a chance to walk along a specially constructed walkway at the top of the stadium that’s 44 metres above ground. That will certainly get the heart going and give you an amazing view of the city. Although it may be best avoided as a date option if heights turn you into a blubbering mess..!

3. Enjoy a milkshake at TGI Fridays

Channel that classic American date vibe by going for milkshakes together. Treat yourselves to one of TGI Fridays’ celebrated Oreo Extreme Milkshakes or Strawberry Extreme Milkshakes. You can also enjoy one of their tasty sharing platters. Nothing breaks down those barriers and creates a bit of intimacy like sharing food.

4. Go to Dublin Zoo

Lots of cute animals and plenty of things to talk about as you take in everything from giraffes to lions. It’s a pretty solid option unless your date has any animal-related allergies that you didn’t know about. And there are monkeys. Everyone loves monkeys.

5. Rent bikes in Phoenix Park

Phoenix Park is the largest enclosed recreational space within a European city so there’s a lot of ground to cover. What’s the best way to enjoy this oasis of nature in the middle of the city? Renting bikes will let you explore it fully, track down even the shyest deer and spend a fun afternoon together. And if you want to really embrace those couple feels, you can even rent a tandem bike…

6. Test your skills at Skillzone, Sandyford

If you’re both active types who like to get those competitive fires burning, Skillzone in Stillorgan is the place for you. Try to get a maximum of 100 points over 10 zones that include Golf Zone, Basketball Zone, Tennis Zone, Climbing Zone and more. Let the games begin!

7. Catch a flick in the cinema

There’s a reason that clichés are clichés. Catching a movie is just a timeless date idea. Many a romance started in a darkened cinema and you’ll always have something to chat about afterwards. Even if it’s only how bad the film was.

8. Hit Funky Seomra

If you want to hit the club but fancy an alcohol-free option, Funky Seomra in Temple Bar is an alcohol and drug-free nightclub. It has two dancefloors and some great DJs so you can enjoy some tunes, hit the dancefloor together and choose from the wide selection of non-alcoholic beverages. And no, not everyone needs to drink before they’ll dance.

9. Take to the treetops in Tibradden Wood

Zipit Forest Adventures lets you see the forest from a whole new perspective. You and your lucky date can go climbing in the treetop assault courses or fly down a zipline to the forest floor. It’s a great place to go if you want to channel your inner Ewok and take your date on a day out to remember.

10. Hit the Dublin Mountains

Choose one of the many romantic hiking routes in the Dublin Mountains, depending on how energetic you and your date are feeling. It’s a chance to get away from the crowds and spend some quality time together. You can also check out local landmarks like the notorious Hell Fire Club, Glenasmole reservoir or the cairn at Fairy Castle above Ticknock Forest.

11. Go to the Dead Zoo

That may not sound terribly romantic but that’s just what the locals call the Natural History Museum. It may be a giant room full of dead animals but it is free and it’ll make you look all cultural and stuff. Plus, it’s hard to not to be blown away by things like the enormous whale skeleton that hangs from the ceiling.

TGI Friday’s milkshakes are the taste of Fridays. Oreo Extreme shake is made from the smoothest vanilla ice cream with crumbled Oreo pieces, chocolate sauce and Extreme shake icing and topped with chocolate brownies and Oreo cookies. Strawberry Extreme shake is a scrumptious blend of vanilla ice cream, freshly topped strawberries and strawberry puree topped with soft pink cotton candy and glazed in Extreme shake icing with yummy sprinkles.

Their delicious sharing platters include ribs, slow–cooked BBQ braised beef, grilled margarita chicken and succulent 7oz sirloin steak.
