5 ingenious bets that you can win every time

There’s nothing better than winning a bet.

Unless it’s making a bet that you know you can’t lose. Does that sound too good to be true? Read on!

We’ve dug up some ingenious bets that rely on physics, biology and good old-fashioned trickery to confuse and amaze your friends and family. Don’t be surprised if they start accusing you of witchcraft after you’ve pulled off one or two of these classics.

1. The “superglued” fingers

Ingenious bets

Science can be a beautiful thing. This bet involves telling someone that you can superglue their fingers together with your mind.

All you have to do is get one of your mates to place their hands together with the palms and fingers touching. Tell them to bend their middle fingers inwards and then ask them if they can separate their ring fingers.

It sounds easy but the tendons between your middle finger and ring finger are actually connected so they’ll be physically incapable of pulling their ring fingers apart. Simples!

2. The foot fall

This one also sounds incredibly simple until you actually try it. Bet your friend that they can’t position their left foot, hip and shoulder against a wall and then lift their right leg.

When you lift your leg, you need to lean the other way to stay balanced. With the wall in the way, they’ll inevitably fall over. So that’s a win for gravity and a win for you.

3. The coin flip

Ingenious bets

Place a small coin on the inside of your wrist and tell them that you can flip it without touching it. Simply click your fingers and the movement of your wrist will cause the coin to flip and land back on your wrist.

It takes a bit of practice and you’ll need to play around with the placement and size of the coin but it works a treat once you’ve got it down.

4. Juggling cups of tea

This bet is so ridiculous that most people rush in to win some money. Tell someone that you can juggle two mugs of tea without spilling a drop. Make a big deal of the fact that you’ll need time to practise and some space between the tea and the top of the mug. It almost makes it more believable.

If they’re still biting, set a date and time to do it. The night before, put two cups of tea in the freezer. The next day, take them out at the appointed time and give them a quick juggle. The frozen tea won’t budge and you’ll win the bet.

Obviously, this only works if you can actually juggle two mugs of frozen tea!

5. 50 words in 30 seconds

Ingenious bets

Bet your friend that you can say 50 words in 30 seconds that don’t have the letters A, B or C in them. It sounds tricky but all you have to do is count from one to 50.

Surprisingly, not one of those numbers contains the three letters in question. Like all the most ingenious bets, it’s simple when you know how to do it!
