“Sorry, what is it you do again?”
Today is World TV Day, celebrating all things telly, but do you know how ads actually get onto the TV? It’s one of those jobs most people just don’t understand. It got us thinking about those complex jobs and what it’s like when they’re explained.
Do you work at a job that’s far easier to actually do than it is to explain? You’ve probably tried to break it down into simpler segments, explaining one piece of information at a time.
Your best attempts will probably manage to confuse them even further. This confusion can be multiplied by 50 when it comes to your parents.
Here’s 5 signs that your folks have absolutely zero clue what you do?
They occasionally say “so what does that have to do with what you studied in college?”
And you have zero answers for this question.
You often get asked “Is that like *insert less complex job title*?”
No mam, health economics has absolutely nothing to do with plastic surgery.
Conversations with relatives get awkward quickly
Mam to aunts and uncles: “He is a… a… a… lovely boy who makes his mother proud.”
This is what they hear when you’re talking shop
You just don’t even bother anymore
Everybody has stopped caring anyway…
Brought to you by GroupM, the world’s largest media buying company. Today they are celebrating #WorldTVDay. Check them out tonight just before the Ray D’arcy Show at 9.40pm, where they will be giving you a behind the scenes look at what it takes to get a TV commercial onto your screens.
