The people at Teeling Whiskey will have an extra reason to celebrate this weekend as their single malt has won the prestigious title of the World’s Best Single Malt award.
In doing so, it’s the first time that an Irish whiskey has been named as the world’s best Single Malt.
Based in Dublin 8, the popular blend beat competition from whiskey industry leaders in Scotland and Japan.
While every category is prestigious, this particular one carries more significance because Single Malt is considered to be the pinnacle of world whiskey due to its production process as well as its character and flavour profile.
The World Whiskies Awards are global awards that select the very best in all internationally recognised styles of whiskey. They select, reward and promote the world’s best whiskies to consumers and trade across the globe.
Speaking about the accolade, Jack Teeling, founder and managing director of Teeling Whiskey, said: “To be honoured as the world’s Best Single Malt and in the process become the first Irish whiskey to ever have achieved such world-wide acclaim is very humbling and reflects the global resurgence and revival of both Teeling and Irish whiskey.
“We are now right back at the top table of global whiskey and we look forward to continue leading this new golden era for Irish whiskey,” he added.
William Lavelle, Head of the Irish Whiskey Association (IWA), offered congratulations to Teeling Whiskey on a magnificent achievement.
“To receive an award of such high esteem at the prestigious World Whiskies Awards this year is an incredible achievement for Teeling Whiskey. It is testament to the quality and excellence of its whiskey range and the hard work and dedication of the team involved to produce this world-class Single Malt.
