7 of the best alternative ideas for a date in Dublin

You don’t always have to go to the same boring old places…

Especially at the early stages of a relationship, the hardest part about going on a date is picking where to go and what to do. You could opt for the old reliable options of the cinema and a few drinks, but who the hell wants that to be the only type of date they go on?

No, you’re different aren’t you? Fear not, as style & culture writer Sarah Hanrahan has given us some ideas of cool alternative places to go on a date that should help mix things up a bit.

If you’re going to make sure you make a good first impression, how about turning up in a brand-new car? MINI Ireland is offering a 48-hour test drive of their 2019 range, which wouldn’t be a bad way to start things off!

1. Dublin Ghost Tour

Hop on the Dublin Ghost Tour and for a first date that’s frightful for all the right reasons. Not only is it a brilliant way to break ice and avoid awkward silences, it can serve as a great go-to if the conversation runs short afterwards.

2. A walk on the pier

Hop on the DART to Dun Laoghaire and hit the pier for a stroll. Throw yourselves down somewhere on the pier and enjoy the food & company.

Honestly, this will be an amazingly refreshing alternative to any restaurant experience.

3. Outdoor movie

Impress them with a trip to an outdoor movie. Happenings show old school movies in outdoor settings like IMMA and Merrion square where you can bring a picnic blanket & treats for the perfect cosy experience.

Far less formal than a standard cinema date and far more romantic.

4. Trip to the market

Nail daytime dating by organising a wander around any of the amazing weekend markets that Dublin has to offer from Marlay Park to Bushy Park to The People’s Park Market.

5. Roller disco

Bring them back to their youth with a trip to The Rink at D12 which comes highly recommended as a ‘definitely not a boring date’ option. The good weather coming our way (hopefully) this summer could help sweeten the deal as well if you wanted to go for a stroll afterwards.

Walking always feels refreshingly easy after trying to keep your balance on roller skates…

6. That’s the Power-scourt of love

Have a romantic wander around the beautiful grounds of Powerscourt. The best thing about this location for a date is, if it goes well you can extend it to the amazing on-site Avoca cafe while you’re there and then on to the stunning waterfalls nearby and, if all is not going so swell?

Do a quick lap of the grounds then call it a day. A date location to suit all success rates!

7. Bingo

Grab Dublin’s BYO bingo bus! If there was ever a night of ultimate craic to be had then surely it starts on a BYO bingo bus?? An experience to remember.
