7 everyday things which will soon be memories from the past

Change is good

JOE

Prepay electricity as you know it is about to change thanks to Electric Ireland’s new service Smarter Pay As You Go, which which will put an end to surprise electricity bills and take the hassle out of prepay electricity.

You’ll be able to do it all without leaving the comfort of your own home. Take a look at the video below for further info.

to celebrate the launch of Smarter Pay As You Go, we’ve put together a list of other things which will soon be a thing of the past. Here they are.

Car mirrors

You may know that camera and display setups are pretty much standard in most high end vehicles, but did you know that the British government has made it mandatory that rearview cameras are installed on every new car by 2018.

You may have been hoping for driverless cars by then, but you will probably have to settle for this auto advancement… for now

Wires

You can now get wireless chargers, wireless internet, wireless downloads. Heck, you can even turn on the kettle without flicking a switch. We predict that it won’t be long until untangling is as ancient a skill as bookbinding.

Forgetting

The internet records almost everything you do. YES, everything. The New York Times reckon this will lead to the end of forgetting. Soak that up for a second. Everything you do is recorded by some database, somewhere. Crazy.

Travel agents as you know them

It seems like we run a story on amazing offers from airlines every second week. Not only that, travel agents are no longer most people’s point of information for holiday destinations. With so much info available online most people go to their laptops instead of their agents and that trend is set to continue.

Handwriting

Four US states have officially dropped handwriting as an educational requirement and more are considering the option. As we use screen swiping and typing more and more, handwriting will become less necessary.

Cash

It’s estimated that by 2020 only 10 per cent of transactions will be made through physical cash. Money is on the way out, or so it seems. Even cheap transactions are being done by card these days, with wireless payments becoming very popular.

Catalogues

We are surprised these aren’t gone already to be honest. Why you’d scroll through a big physical catalog rather than just type into a browser is beyond us. We reckon these will soon be thrown out the door rather than being pushed through it.

There you have it, 7 things that will soon be things of the past inspired by one feature of the future, Electric Ireland Smarter Pay As You Go.
