A Christmas tree powered by Twitter? We’ve seen it all!

Twitter isn’t necessarily known for its good will or seasonal cheer but that’s about to change this Christmas.

You see you can now use Twitter to light up the bulbs on a Christmas tree in Dublin and raise money for the National Children’s Hospital in the process.

Isn’t that much better than using it to argue with people you don’t know or send mean tweets to random celebrities?

The SPAR Twitter Tree is an innovative idea that lets people do their bit for a really important charity. All you have to do is use the #underthetree hashtag in a tweet to light a bulb on the tree.

The actual tree is located at SPAR in the Ranelagh Triangle and there are 1600 bulbs to light. Once all the bulbs are lit, SPAR will make a €20,000 donation to the National Children’s Hospital to mark the launch of their official charity partnership.

Anyone who wants to have a look at the Twitter Tree can take a spin over to Ranelagh. Or you can click into the website to check the progress if you’re not living in Dublin.

SPAR and the National Children’s Hospital are encouraging people to tweet a selfie from the tree and use the hashtag #underthetree to spread the word.

The National Children’s Hospital in Tallaght has been taking care of children since 1821. It’s a great cause so take a moment to tweet the hashtag and light up a bulb on SPAR’s Twitter Tree.

It’s an easy way to share a bit of good will and make a difference this Christmas.

Simply tweet #underthetree to light up SPAR’s giant Twitter Christmas Tree and raise money for the National Children’s Hospital.
