A surprisingly large number of Irish people prefer eggs to sausages or rashers for breakfast

This isn’t eggs-actly what we were expecting to hear

This isn’t eggs-actly what we were expecting to hear.

They say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but not everybody seems to listen.

Talk to enough people and you’ll find that a lot of them don’t appear to eat breakfast at all, but for those who do in Ireland at least, eggs appear to be the meal of choice in the morning.

According to a recent survey by McDonald’s, 62% of Irish people voted eggs as their favourite breakfast menu item ahead of sausages (20%) and bacon (18%).

The vast majority of Irish people (49%), meanwhile, have a ‘grab-n-go’ approach to breakfast, while over a quarter of those surveyed (28%) prefer to ‘sit down and savour’ the first meal of the day.

Just under a fifth of respondents (19%) said that they ‘devour breakfast with delight’…

…while 4% skip breakfast altogether.

The survey revealed a whole load of interesting information about the habits of Irish people when it comes to breakfast such as ketchup being the favoured condiment ahead of jam and that more than half of respondents have eggs for meals other than breakfast.

McDonald’s conducted the survey to officially launch Free Breakfast Friday, which will see 40,000 Egg McMuffins being given away for free at McDonald’s restaurants nationwide this Friday, March 27.

All 87 McDonald’s restaurants in Ireland will offer customers the choice of a free Bacon & Egg McMuffin or a free Sausage & Egg McMuffin until 10am so make sure you’re up early to take advantage.

You’d be some yolk to miss it.
