A phenomenal amount of money has been raised for the Irish families affected by the Berkeley balcony collapse on June 16.

Almost €400,000 is the amount that has been generously donated by people to the fund opened by the Irish Immigration Pastoral Centre.

The fund entitled ‘The Irish J1 Berkeley Tragedy Fund’ will be used to provide assistance to the families that have lost someone or have had someone injured in the tragic accident.

Six lives were lost in the tragedy and a further seven were seriously injured in the Balcony collapse in San Francisco.

Five of the injured remain in hospital care in San Francisco while two have already been brought home.

On this side of the water, Dublin students have arranged a fundraising concert to take place next week, with the money going to the care and treatment of the injured students.
