At least he went out doing what he loved… drinking beer.

A man hailed as a ‘beer drinking champion', Joaquín Alcaraz Gracia, sadly passed away this week, moments after lifting the winner’s trophy at a beer-drinking event in Spain. Shortly after winning the main prize at a festival in Spain's Murcia region, Gracia began to vomit before passing out and he soon went into cardiac arrest. Antonio Alcaraz, a spectator at the event, told the Spanish newspaper Hoy, “He had drunk six litres of beer, and when he won and lifted the trophy. Then he just started to vomit without stopping and he never spoke again.” The rules required contestants to down as much booze as possible in the 20-minute time frame, which meant Gracia would have knocked back around 12 pints before he passed out and ultimately passed away. "He vomited a lot but I sat with him for ten minutes, and he was sleeping and snoring away," municipality vice president Pedro Rodríguez told the Hoy. According to TheLocal.es, “Local mayor José Manuel Gracia told Hoy newspaper the cause of the beer drinking king's death was not yet clear. “Local authorities have also called for a three-day official period of mourning.” As the saying goes, ‘know the one that’s one too many’.
