Belfast comedians make fun of DUP deal to the tune of The Proclaimers’ “500 Miles”

“Well I just got 5oo pound…

… and you just got 500 too. Cuz a deal was struck that looks a lot like bribing someone to vote with you.”

And so goes the chorus of what-should-be-an-instant-Number-One hit by internet funny-folk L.A.D., as they poke fun at the DUP Deal, all to the tune of The Proclaimers insanely popular (seriously, somebody explain it to me, why people love this song so much) “500 Miles”.

In case you need a catch-up on what the DUP Deal, you can find out all about it right here, but basically in political terms, the most important detail is that the ten DUP MPs will back the Tories in key Commons votes, starting with the Queen’s Speech later this week, and the Budget.

Here, the tune is sung by The Remainers – who point out that, yes, Northern Ireland did in fact vote in favour of remaining – and they don’t leave any stone unturned and un-made-fun-off over the course of their cover song.

There are a lot of highlights to pick from, but our particular favourite has got to be the line “And if I know the DUP, you’re gonna see all Orange bands, get golden flutes.”
