Blaa-dy amazing; Waterford bap gets EU protection

Champagne, Parmesan cheese and blaas; not just our ideal lunch, but all members of a very special club

JOE

Champagne, Parmesan cheese and blaas; not just our ideal lunch, but all now members of a very special club.

If you want to buy a blaa now, you can only get the real deal in Waterford, ‘cos the EU said so. After a four-year campaign, the EU have finally granted the blaa the EU’s protected designation of origin.

That means that the floury bread roll can only be called a blaa if it is made in Waterford, and anyone who tries to call their baps blaas anywhere else will be in trouble.

The blaa, if you haven’t had the pleasure of eating one, is a soft white roll that is very, very tasty and with its short shelf life, you will now have to make the trip to Waterford to try one.

Trust us, it’s worth it.
