After suffering a seizure and bleeding on the brain, he had been declared brain dead.

An eight-year-old boy who fell ill on holiday with his family in Barbados had sadly passed away. Ace Rewcastle, from Portsmouth in the UK, arrived on the Caribbean island with his mum and other family members on December 21 to spend Christmas there.

But he fell ill on January 3 and was rushed to the hospital with suspected meningitis after developing a rash. Once there, he was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia after undergoing scans in the hospital.

His health deteriorated though, and on January 8 he suffered a seizure and a catastrophic bleed on the brain. The youngster never regained consciousness and the next day, he was put into an induced coma and declared brain dead.

He passed away on Saturday morning. Confirming the tragic news on Facebook, Ace’s mother Amber Field paid an emotional tribute to her son saying:

“Ace is now resting. There is no footprint too small to leave an imprint in this world.

“Good night Acey Pops, today nature took its course.

“You are my whole existence and I will love and remember you until my last breath.

“Give nanny Pat a big cuddle from me & let’s get you home my darling baby.”

Penny Mordaunt, MP for Portsmouth North said: “My thoughts are with Ace’s family.

“My team and I are in touch and will continue to provide them with whatever help they need, especially to bring Ace home.

“I want to thank all those who have helped the family in recent days.”

GoFundMe set up for Ace to cover the cost of his treatment before his sad passing has now raised nearly £120,000.

A UK Foreign Office spokesperson said: “We are providing support to the family of a British child who has died in Barbados and are in contact with the local authorities.

“Our thoughts are with the family at this difficult time.”
