“Our tribute to Ireland’s & now the world’s greatest”.

In case you didn’t know, Katie Taylor is having a pretty fantastic 2019.

Earlier in June, she had her 14th professional fight of her career, her 14th win, and her 4th belt.

One of Ireland’s greatest sportspeople became the country’s first ever undisputed world champion boxer as she made it a clean sweep of lightweight belts, defeating Delfine Persoon to add the WBC title to her collection.

Since then, there have been calls growing for Taylor, who is also a gold medal Olympian, to be honoured with a statue.

A petition to have a statue made in her likeness in Bray has been set up, and if you want to add your signature to the cause, you can find it here.

And while we’re not quite there yet, this amazing new mural will absolutely make do for now!

Painted by artist Emmalene Blake, it can be viewed right outside the Back Page in Phibsborough, who posted the image to their Instagram page with the accompanying description: “Our tribute to Ireland’s & now the world’s greatest”.

No arguments here.
