Brown Thomas on Grafton Street has been given a full pub licence

Colm Boohig

It will be for the benefit of those waiting for their friends/loved ones to finish shopping.

The dream has been realised for the many people who would rather do anything else than shopping; Brown Thomas, in Grafton Street in Dublin, has been granted a full pub licence.

According to The Irish Times, Lorraine Bedford, the health and safety compliance manager for Brown Thomas, explained to the Circus Licensing Court that drinks like beer and spirits should be available to people who are waiting around in the store while “their money was being spent”.

We can’t argue with that.

The court, who granted Brown Thomas a Declaratory Order in January, was happy to approve the latest measure as the necessary planning permission, fire safety, refurbishments and renovation requirements were fully complied with.

Mr Justice Raymond Groarke of the Circus Licensing Court has, therefore, granted Brown Thomas a standard seven-day full pub licence.

Brown Thomas has had a wine licence in its restaurant for the last 40 years, but the latest step is set to revolutionise the retail experience.
