Even the biggest burger lover would think twice before eating this new bap

We're in two minds about this...

JOE

Ehm, yummy?

We love a good burger and we’d even go as far as saying that we’d travel a fair distance to get one if it came down to it.

However, travelling to Switzerland to sample their burger patties and meatballs made out of beetle larvae is something that we are very unsure about.

Swiss shoppers will soon get the chance to stock up on burgers and meatballs made with bugs mixed with chilli, added to spice up the flavour.

According to Bloomberg, bug burgers are happening and supermarket chain, Coop, are testing consumers’ appetite for less-common alternatives to beef and pork.

The mealworm burger patties will also contain rice, carrots and spices and will cost around €8 to buy a pack of two in the store.

Along with that, the so called ‘bug balls’ will sell at the same price for a pack of ten and both bug-meats will hit the shelves on August 21.

We’re not trying to convince you that this might be nice but, apparently, mealworms have a mild flavour that becomes slightly nutty when roasted.

The company have been working on introducing these meat substitutes for almost three years now and they were originally set to launch in May of this year.

United Nations food experts have argued that bugs can satisfy meat cravings without all the damage to rain forests and depletion of water.
