The Nightmare King will be launched in time to celebrate Halloween.

Why would you purposefully want to eat food that you know for a fact will you give nightmares?

That is the question you need to ask yourself if you go ahead and order Burger King’s new sandwich, the Nightmare King, which is set to be released in participating branches from Monday 22 October.

As it stands, on average, 4% of the world’s population are going to have a nightmare tonight as they sleep.

After having a Nightmare King? That number jumps to an average of 14%.

So what causes the increase in scary dreams? Burger King’s description of the burger itself will probably help to answer that:

“This spooky sandwich features 1/4 lb of savory flame-grilled beef, a 100% white meat crispy chicken fillet, melted American cheese, thick cut bacon, creamy mayonnaise, and onions all assembled on a glazed green sesame seed bun.”

So… ALL of the meat, with cheese. Yep, that’ll do it.

Researchers who studied the sleep patterns in a number of those who had eaten the burger told Food & Wine Magazine that “By tracking various signals from the sleeping subjects including their heart rate, brain activity and breath, a group of doctors and scientists identified whether the individuals had vivid dreams.”

“[The combination of proteins and cheese caused] an interruption of the subjects’ REM (Rapid Eye Movement) cycles, during which we experience the majority of our dreams.”

So there you have it.

We definitely want to try one, just to see what kind of nightmares a burger can cause. Research! Delicious research!
