Calling all boy racers: Kerry mayor wants you to give rural people a lift to the pub

A Kerry mayor has suggested that instead of hooning around the countryside at 1am in the morning in their noisy Glanzas, boy racers should help people in isolated areas to get to the pub.

Mayor of Killarney, Cllr Paddy Courtney may be onto something with this one… He said that instead of keeping people awake with their noisy cars, boy racers should be helping out people in rural communities who need a lift to and from the shops or the pub.

“If they want to be driving these cars, drive properly and mannerly and maybe adopt a friend,” he said.

“Take the neighbour to bingo or down to the pub for two pints and take them home. Maybe that is something that can come out of this, something good.

“Maybe these boy racers and boy racer girls as they’re called, maybe they can look at this and say this is an opportunity to show that we can do some good.”

It’s not a bad idea, but would you want to be driven home on country roads by a boy racer after you’ve had your fill of pints? It probably wouldn’t be the most enjoyable experience…
