A priest in County Galway has taken to using PowerPoint presentations to deliver his masses.
The Connacht Tribune report how Fr. Joe Roche of Ardrahan and Kilchreest, after noticing the responses of his following were a little bit subdued after the new translation of the Roman Missal was introduced by the clergy in November 2011.
“It was terrible. They dropped off completely because they weren’t familiar with the texts,” he recalls.
It was on a trip to Malaysia that he came up with the idea of a slideshow at Mass, projecting responses, psalms and the Penitential Rite.
Then he went mad altogether and decided to project pictures as well as words.
He also says he’s not afraid to throw in the odd bit of humour, although not always successfully. He’s not Father Larry Duff, after all.
“I try. At times it works and times it doesn’t. Working humour on a congregation is a risky business. I cracked a joke the other Sunday and I thought it was very funny. Nobody else did though. It is a risk.”
