Brought to you by LYONS Tea supporting Pieta House.
Last Monday, JOE.ie hosted a night in support of improving Irish mental health services alongside LYONS Tea and Pieta House.
In 2015, Ireland lost eight people a week to suicide, and it is widely accepted that we are not doing enough to help our citizens who are suffering from depression, bipolar disorder, alcoholism and many other mental illnesses.
Mental health needs to be at the very forefront of the national conversation, and improving access to mental health services needs to be at the forefront of the national agenda – starting as early as the primary school classroom, and reaching into our health services, homes and workplaces.
These points and more were made by our panel at the Royal College of Physicians on Monday, before the crowd broke up into smaller panels to discuss the finer details of mental health services in Ireland and how they affect society.
