Check out one man’s heartfelt plea to have his Coppers gold card reinstated

This story has everything - heartbreak, peril, bouncers, eh... heartbreak

This story has everything – heartbreak, peril, bouncers, eh… heartbreak.

We’ll admit that we’ve never known the misery of having our Copper Face Jacks Gold Card revoked, but the thought has certainly kept us up at night.

True story.

Well, you never think it’ll happen to you until it does.

This loyal Coppers-goer sent an email to Cathal Jackson, owner of the popular nightspot, having seen his 2007 card refused. The story came into our possession via the girls over at Her.ie, who transcribed it below so that we didn’t have to. Legends.

The letter begins…

Dear Mr.Jackson,

I am writing to you as a concerned as a concerned loyal customer about an incident that took place on your premises a few weeks back. Copper Face Jacks has long been held as a special place in people’s hearts due to its guarantees of a good crowd, consistent soundtrack and generally a quality night’s entertainment. For generations you have provided a home from home for visitors to the capital from far flung parts of rural Ireland, members of law enforcement and fans of multiple sports team where victors and losers embrace like family.

Coppers is more than just a nightclub, Countless friendships, happy lifelong relationships and even relationships have come about thanks to your venue, stories take on mystical qualities in a way that means very few can doubt or question them, sure even as recent as the summer just past didn’t Andre 3000 tip in from Electric Picnic and get turned away for “having too much drink on him”. Another reason your establishment has been held in such high regard is your treatment of loyal customers, you reward them with your Gold Card scheme and regularly provide concessions for sports teams from Inter County GAA stars to the Hackballscross handball team and a deep sea exploration club from Muff in Donegal to name but a few.

Coppers

It is this that has caused me sleepless nights of late, I have been [in] denial for weeks and I have to bring myself to ask if somewhere along the line a part of this rich tradition of loyalty has gone astray. On the 24thof October, I a loyal patron of almost 10 years had my Gold Card revoked to my dismay. I spoke to yourself at the door Cathal and you confirmed the unthinkable, that my card a 2007 (no. 0387) vintage edition granted to me through my work with a sports club in college, had been outdated by a new system, the doorman took my details in what an onlooker deemed an obvious case of humouring someone!

Some 4 and a half weeks on and I have had no correspondence. I have struggled to accept what has happened and to put reason to it. The events of that night have run through my head ever since and have brought me to a conclusion that I must warn you sounds quite ridiculous, a thought so “out there” that I have avoided saying it out loud so as not be locked up. I apologise in advance but on the night in question it was almost as if being the DIT Go-Karting secretary 07/08 and 08/09 counted for nothing in this town anymore! I handled this situation with as much dignity as could be expected in the circumstances, but I do apologise for repeatedly asking the doorman “do you know who I am?” Which although fully justified may have been ill timed and slightly over zealous (I’m sure he may actually “work in this town again”.)

Bearing all of the above in mind, I implore you to restore one disillusioned cusomters faith in your institution and grant me a new card.

Yours Expectantly,

XXXX
